BARRE, Vt. — After watching the weather over the last 48 hours, and seeking counsel with area meteorologists, Thunder Road officials have made the decision to postpone the 45th Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup to a later date. With the forecast not only calling for thunderstorms but also a severe threat that includes high winds, concentrated lightning and the possibility of hail, officials felt their hands were tied once again by Mother Nature.
Severe thunderstorms on the back draft of Northern New England’s week-long heat wave are set to hit the Central Vermont area this afternoon and sit over the greater Barre area.
Officials are working on a make-up date and have been in continued discussions with Cole Custer to secure a date that ensures the Xfinity champion’s visit to Thunder Road.
“It’s unfortunate but it’s a necessity at this point,” said Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud. “With the forecast calling for severe winds, lightning and hail we just can’t see subjecting our fans and teams to that kind of possibility. We’re working with Cole Custer to see about a reschedule date and we’ll have that out as soon as we can.”
