THOMPSON, Conn. — Race fans and teams alike showed Wednesday that midweek racing is alive and well in Northeast Connecticut with a great crowd on hand to witness 21 top Tour-type Modified teams battle it out for the $5,000 prize waiting at the end of their 50-lap sprint.
Modified Tour standout Ron Silk stood in victory lane at the end of the 50-lap event. Silk took the lead early and traded the point with Ronnie Williams throughout the early laps, but Williams grabbed the lead on lap 14.
Silk regained the lead on lap 27 and began pulling away, and despite several yellow flags during the second half of the race, claimed the $5,000 victory.
Anthony Bello came on strong at the end to finish second, while George Bessette Jr. and Chris Pasteryak rounded out the top five.
Alexander Pearl swept both 30-lap Sk modified features on the asphalt half-mile oval.
Other winners were Nick Johnson (late models), Ryan Waterman (limited sportsman) and Jarred Roy (mini stocks).
