CORNWALL, Ontario – Brian McDonald captured the 125-lap Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals main event for 358 modifieds on Sunday evening at Cornwall Motor Speedway.
Early in the feature Corey Wheeler and Mario Clair traded the top spot before Clair went to the pits on lap 10. Wheeler inherited the lead as McDonald arrived on the scene, taking the lead for the first time on lap 14.
He built a sizable advantage until the caution waved on lap 37. McDonald went right back to work when the green flag returned, pulling out to a commanding lead before Yan Bussiere stopped in turn four on lap 48.
McDonald continued to lead until a restart on lap 61 gave Luke Whitteker a chance to challenge McDonald, but McDonald pulled away again. Multiple cautions would wave in the second half of the race, including a red flag on lap 112 for Carey Terrance ending up on his lid.
None of that mattered to McDonald, who led the remainder of the distance to win the feature. Wheeler secured his second division championship.
Mathieu Laramée won the 50-lap sportsman feature while Ryan Stabler claimed the class title. Bruno Richard was the winner in the pro stock class as Dave Seguin took the division crown. Skylar Ladouceur took top honors in the mini stock class while Alexis Charbonneau was crowned division champion. Lastly, Elliot Gamache earned his first novice sportsman victory as runner-up Tristan Ladouceur claimed the class title.
