BATAVIA, N.Y. — Three-time and defending Genesee Speedway Sportsman champion Kyle Inman used a late-race pass to score his second Bellinger Electric Inc. (BEI) Lightning Series victory of the season Thursday night at Genesee Speedway.
The remaining 33 laps were run under blue skies and sunshine as Brett Senek continued to leave where he left off after the completion of lap 17 back on July 4, leading the event.
Senek, Inman, Brad Rouse, Chad Chevalier and James Michael Friesen raced in the top five the entire distance as the top five pulled away from the balance of the starting field.
The second half of the race saw the outside groove start to come in and that would allow Inman to close the gap on Rouse and race leader Senek.
Inman would take second away and then would set his sights on the leader. Using lapped traffic, Inman would be able to close the gap on Senek and with seven laps remaining, would pass Senek to take the lead.
Inman would hold off Senek and Rouse to score the victory, his second on the BEI Series and fourth of the season at the Batavia oval. Senek, Rouse, Friesen and Chevalier rounded out the top five.
