BROCKVILLE, Ontario – Johnathon Ferguson topped the list of winners on a busy night of action at Brockville Ontario Speedway Saturday night.
The 25-lap Sportsman feature saw Jessica Power and Ferguson lead the field to green, with Power gaining the advantage into turn one with Ferguson behind. Jarrett Herbison, Dale Gifford and Dan Ferguson rounded out the top-five early in the race.
Power and Johnathon Ferguson would battle side by side for the opening four laps before Ferguson would gain the advantage down the backstretch. With a fast race track beneath him, Johnathon Ferguson combined driving skill with a great race car to pull away by more than a straightaway over Power, with Herbison, Dale Gifford and Dan Ferguson close behind.
With 10 laps remaining Johnathon Ferguson was working the speedway perfectly and traffic was no issue as he continued his march to a potential 15th career Brockville Sportsman win as Power tried all she could to keep close.
The race looked like it was going caution free until lap 23, when Shane Stearns slowed on the backstretch. On the final restart Johnathon Ferguson got the jump he was looking for with Power continuing to give chase.
Johnathon Ferguson would make two quality laps to get the job done as Power had to settle for second. Herbison, Cedric Gauvreau and Dan Ferguson completed the top-five.
Other feature winners included James Clarke in the mini stocks, Ryan Hunsinger in the crate sprints, Todd Raabe in the street stocks and Fire Swamp in the rookie sportsman class.
