BROCKVILLE, Ont. — A cloudy and overcast day turned to mid-afternoon showers at the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night on what was supposed to be the opener for the season.
Track crews managed to fight off the rain and got the surface worked in for the first heat race of the evening for the Novice Sportsman division. Paul Donnelly would come home the winner of the six-lap contest.
The skies opened up as the second heat took to the track which caused a lengthy delay, as crews worked to get the track surface race ready. Several quick showers halted the progression but stopped, allowing crews to do everything they could to get the night in.
Despite the track crew efforts and the efforts of all drivers in the pit area, officials deemed the track not fit for racing action and canceled the show.
Next Saturday, the Oglive’s Triple Crown Series, Novice Sportsman, Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints and Street Stocks will be in action.
