FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. – Alex Williamson collected his maiden USRA late model win at Mississippi Thunder Speedway Friday night, in a race that went nonstop once an opening-lap yellow was cleared.
Barry Johnson led the first two laps before Justin Sass used the bottom line in turns one and two to take over. Williamson ran the top at one end and the bottom at the other and eventually closed on the leader.
A lap-14 high side drive off turn two did the trick, and Williamson pulled off what became the winning pass. At the conclusion of 20 frantic laps, Williamson had his first win on the third-mile oval, with Lance Hofer and Sass completing the podium.
Rodney Sanders ran the wall around the high-banked third mile Friday night to collect the $1,500 win for USRA modifieds.
Sanders ran all 30 laps next to the concrete and slowly closed on the lead until his lap-16 effort led to his winning pass.
Preliminary mains saw wins go to Rick Slawson (hornets), Travis Crowsay (hobbies), Ryan Olson (B mods). On the sixth-mile inner track, it was Kyle Jumbeck (600s) and Gavin Bartel (slingshots) collecting wins.
