INDIANAPOLIS — Mark Tunny bested 42 cars Friday night to capture the pole for Saturday’s 45th annual World Figure-8 Championship presented by Gladiator Roofing and Restoration at the Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome powered by Lincoln Tech.
Tunny’s pole award gives him his ninth career pole in the late model Figure-8 three-hour endurance race dating back to 2010. With his most recent pole, he now ties Jack Dossey Jr. with the most pole awards in the events history.
Friday’s qualifying session locked in the top 20 qualifiers for tonight’s $20,000-to-win event. Saturday afternoon will see qualifying resume to set positions 21-28 to finalize the starting grid. Qualifiers 29-42 will be added as alternates once the race begins, and cars begin to exit the track.
