Sargent, Vandermeir & Ace Among Winners At LaCrosse ‘Fest

WEST SALEM, Wis. — Randy Sargent, Ron Vandermeir Jr. and Chester Ace were among feature winners during day three of the 55th annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday night.

Sargent, from South Beloit, Ill., came home the winner of the Big 8 Late Models stock car main event. Getting by early race leader Jeremy Miller, Sargent scored the win over Kendrick Kreyer with a 0.904-second margin at the checkered flag. 

Jacob Goede finished third followed by fastest qualifier Skylar Holzhausen, Michael Bilderback and Griffin McGrath. Bilderback wrapped up his fifth Big 8 championship during the season finale that saw over 40 entries crowd the pits with 26 cars starting the feature. Earlier, Brady Bill won the 18-lap/22 car ‘B’ feature for Big 8 competitors.

Vandermeir Jr., of Sheridan, Ill., captured the 25-lap Mid-Am Racing Series headliner that saw a field of 25 cars take the green flag.  Scotty Gardner paced the early laps with Vandermeir taking command.  Vandermeir, a five-time Mid-Am champion from Sheridan, Ill., bested Cameron Preisler, Josh Nelms, Rick Redig-Tackman, Nick Bruley and Gardner, who won the overall Mid-Am title and series rookie of the year honors.

Ace claimed the 25-lap main event for Midwest Truck Series drivers. Hailing from Oregon, Wis., Ace and his Ford 150 truck scored the win over 2021 series titlist Tristian Swanson, five-time truck champion James Swan and Jeff Holtz. Finishing seventh in the 25-truck field, Brandon Reichenberger wrapped up his first truck series title.

Davey Pennel, from Sparta, Wis., was the winner of the 20-lap Midwest Dash Series feature race that saw a field of 18 four-cylinders start. Pennel finished ahead of Tim Anderson, Karter Stark, Phil Malouf and Mike Heidemann.
