MORRIS, Ill. — Kid’s Night at the Grundy County Speedway Friday night saw Blake Brown debut his new late model stock car with Brown capturing the 30-lap division headliner.
Earlier in the night, over 100 bicycles were given away to lucky young race fans.
Setting fast time during qualifying, Brown, last year’s sportsman champion at the raceway, drove his new McCloskey Farms/Snowdance Auto Repair & Recovery/Prairie State Water Systems/Terry’s Auto Group-sponsored No. 71 to the victory. The 30-year-old racer from Twin Lakes, Wis., moved into the lead on lap 18 and raced to the finish line with a 0.783-second advantage over Stan Zolodz. D.J. Weltmeyer, Jim Weber, Larry Schuler and early race leader James Gregait rounded out the top-six in the 12-car field.
Pretty much “cleaning house,” Josh Nelms was the winner of the 25-lap sportsman main event. Nelms scored the win over Jeff Wakeman, Kevin Murphy, David Einhaus and Marqus Hoover after setting fast time and taking a heat race win earlier in the evening at the third-mile, paved speedway.
Former two-time division champion Randy Weese came home the winner of the 25-lap street stock headliner, posting his first win of the season. Weese bested Scotty Gardner, 2021 division champ Scott Gardner, Chad Bayuk and Darrell Gay.
Kyle Brick grabbed the win in the 20-lap feature race for four-cylinder division competitors. Brick finished ahead of Zach Chanda, Katie Hocking, Johnathan Stevens and last year’s class champ Cameron Preisler.
