OWOSSO, Mich.— Owosso Speedway is quickly becoming a mainstay for the midwest’s biggest events as the facility will host the 9th Annual Hot Shoe 100 this weekend for the Midwest Modifieds Tour, an event paying over $10,000 to the winner.
It is the track’s first time hosting this crown jewel for asphalt modified racers and it will be carried LIVE on SPEED SPORT TV affiliate Pit Row TV on Saturday, Aug. 12.
With 56 entries pre-registered as of Wednesday evening, the path to glory this Saturday night will be a hard-fought one as drivers from as far away as Florida will be making the tow to Michigan in an attempt to claim the win.
Brian Nester is the all-time leader in event wins, notching a pair of back-to-back triumphs in 2014-15 and again in 2017-18. Ever since the event left Whittemore Speedway, however, Nester has gone winless.
Blake Rowe is the only driver to have won the event at two different race tracks, picking up the victory in 2019 at Kinross Speedpark and again in 2021 at Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway. From its inception, the Hot Shoe 100 has been sanctioned by the Midwest Modified Tour. However it has been a non-points special event since 2018.
Owosso Speedway is the fourth facility the event has traveled to during its tenure, and it could potentially find a long-term home at the track recently given new life by Rex Wheeler and company.
Amidst a multi-million dollar renovation, the track is deep into upgrades which have included technical accessibility with high-speed fiber optic internet as part of the property’s infrastructure, additional cellular tower coverage and a planned seating expansion to over 18,000 seats. In short, Wheeler and his team are working to make Owosso a premier destination for fans and racers everywhere.
For competitors, the upgrades to Owosso will be including an expanded pit area and more events like the $10,024-to-win Hot Shoe 100 where even the C-main pays $1,000 to win and $250 to start.
Drivers in the B-main can pocket a cool $2,500 for winning, or settle for $650 starting cash, while A-main participants are guaranteed a minimum $1024 for their efforts with 10th place paying just shy of $2000.
