MONTPELIER, Ind. – Following an abbreviated 2021 season, Montpelier Motor Speedway officials have announced that the three-eighths-mile clay oval will return to a full-season schedule this year.
Saturday, April 9 has been targeted as the opening night.
The historic oval was sitting idle for the first half of 2021 but came to life in late July under the direction of Larry Boos, who will return this season in the same capacity as promoter/manager of the north eastern Indiana speed plant.
“We had spent much of our time last year getting to know the racers and fans that support Montpelier and have learned quite a bit. They are a supportive group, and our mission is to give them a quality program in 2022,” stated Boos.
Under that premise, Montpelier Motor Speedway will feature UMP Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and Hornets as weekly divisions. Multiple dates have been selected for appearances from the Midwest Thunder Midget Series and the Dirt Truck Series. Additionally, the Late Models will have a few dates on the calendar. Negotiations are underway for additional dates, to be announced soon.
“We appreciate the interest that fans have in touring groups coming to Montpelier, but we know our place in the racing world and what we are capable of doing. We are grassroots weekly racing and as we continue to grow and learn we will continue to expand our initiatives. When we bring in outside sanctioning groups, we want to be able to do it right,” concluded Boos.
