MORRIS, Ill. — Newcomer James Lynch came home the winner again in late model feature action at Grundy County Speedway Friday night as the 19-year-old speedster won the 30-lap division headliner at the third-mile paved raceway.
For the second week in a row, the Palos Park, Ill., driver drove his U.S. Equipment Sales and Rentals-sponsored Camry No. 76 to victory. Scoring his first career feature win last Friday, Lynch won this week’s main event with a .788-second advantage over veteran Larry Schuler at the checkered flag.
Earlier in the evening, Lynch was the fastest qualifier among the late model ranks.
Seven-time Grundy late model champion Eddie Hoffman finished third, followed by James Gregait, last year’s late model titlist D.J. Weltmeyer and Jim Weber.
Former two-time division champion Kevin Murphy was the winner of the 25-lap sportsman main event. Winning for the first time this season, Murphy finished ahead of Jeremiah Senko, Kenny Benson, fast timer Marqus Hoover and Scotty Gardner.
Another first-time winner was Cameron Preisler who won the 25-lap street stock feature. Preisler scored the win ahead of Randy Weese, Matt Chester, Scotty Gardner and Jonathan Stevens. Jerry Legner won the 15-lap hobby stock main event over David Einhaus and Mike Enman. Tom Schnabel claimed top honors in the 20-lap feature race for the Midwest Mayhem Midgets.
Schnabel was chased to the finish line by Mike Slabenak, six-time series titlist Scott Koerner, Basil Hicks and Doug Orseske.
