BRITT, Iowa – Hancock County Speedway ran its second event since the fair board assumed control of the three-eighths-mile dirt track on Tuesday night.
The Tuesday special featured IMCA Northern sport mods, with a $2,500-to-win, 30-lap main serving as the highlight.
IMCA divisions joining the field were mods, stock cars, hobbies, and sport compacts. The sport mod turnout accounted for 45 of the 88 cars in attendance.
Five heats moved the top four to the sport mod main, with the top two from each re-drawing to fill the first five rows.
Matthew Looft drew the outside of the front row and led all 30 laps to win, with late-race pressure from Colby Fett and Jayden Schmidt making it very interesting.
Fett used a four-wide effort in turn two to help himself finish second from 11th, with 12th-starting Schmidt taking third.
Nick Meyer won the modified main despite some late-race pressure from Chaz Baca Jr.
Mesa, Ariz., driver Baca is in the Midwest racing for the first time and has two second-place finishes in two races following a Lexington, Neb., runner-up. Brad Whitfield, general manager of Cocopah Speedway in Yuma, Ariz., is supporting Baca’s Midwest effort.
McCain Jennings led the first four laps in stock car action with cars pressuring him before Troy Swearingen used the bottom of turn four to make the winning pass, leading the remainder of the main.
Hobby stocks had a dozen starters for 12 laps. Josh Sidles ran a flawless race to win from the pole.
Sport compacts started 10 cars for eight laps and Jaedon Erickson dominated from the inside of row two for the win.
Rain slid past Britt a bit south of town for several hours and officials pushed the show to an early conclusion before a large Tuesday night crowd.
