MAPLE PARK, Ill. — The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Auto Racing Association (BMARA) joined the track’s weekly stock car competitors Saturday for “Dashing for Donors” night at the Sycamore Speedway.
Todd Kluever, from Sun Prairie, Wisc., jumped into the Badger midget points lead by capturing the evening’s feature race – the first of the year for the 46-year-old racer, who wheeled the Badger Music & Equipment No. 55.
Using the bottom groove of the third-mile clay oval, Kluever held off the challenges of Kyle Stark, who charged to the front using the speedway’s high groove. Stark had wrestled the lead away from Kluever, who led from the start before a red-flag accident occurred with seven laps completed.
A wild, multi-car melee took place on the backstretch with several cars flipping and tumbling. Jerry Coons Jr., Chris Baue, Brian Peterson, Luke Wackerlin and Mark McMahill were all involved. Getting out of his car under his own power, McMahill was transferred to a local hospital for observation.
On the restart, the high-groove running Stark set the pace only to see Kluever, running the bottom lane, come back and take command. At the finish, it was Kluever showing the way over fast qualifier Parker Jones, Daltyn England, Stark, Alex Midkiff and Mario Clouser. Twenty-two cars started the feature event.
Matt Rechek won the 12-lap semi-feature over Wackerlin and Charles Kunz. Eight-lap heat races went to Cale Coons, Tyler Roth and Jerry Coons Jr. Harrison Kleven won the eight-lap non-qualifiers race. Thirty-six entries were on hand.
Corey Trump was the winner of the 20-lap limited late-model feature race. Trump bested veteran John Provenzano, division points leader Titus Sneed, Toby Kuntzelman and Josh Breese.
Zach Zuberbier won the 20-lap street stock main event. Zuberbier bested Kyle Smith, Joel Hernandez and points leader David Dulceak. Alex Adams took home top honors in the 15-lap pure stock feature over Charles Schork and Colton Cavin.
