Kimmel Among Entrants For Salem’s Firecracker 150

SALEM, Ind. – Salem Speedway will play host to the 32nd running of the Firecracker 150 featuring the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks this Sunday.

The event, one of Salem Speedway’s annual premier racing events, will be broadcast live by SPEED SPORT TV affiliate Dirt2Media.

The Firecracker 150 annually draws a strong field of competitors and this year will be no exception. Among those who have pre-entered is 10-time ARCA Menards Series champion Frank Kimmel, who won the 1991 edition of the Firecracker 150. His son, Frank Kimmel II, also won the Firecracker 150 in 2007. The elder Kimmel will pilot Roger Williams’ No. 32 Sunday.

Kimmel is widely considered the greatest driver in the history of the ARCA Menards Series. In a career that included more than 500 ARCA starts, Kimmel earned 80 series victories. The 59-year-old racer last visited ARCA victory lane in 2013, the same year he captured the last of his record 10 ARCA championships.

Chuck Barnes Jr. is the defending winner of the Firecracker 150, who won the the event for the first time last season. His father, Chuck Barnes Sr., won the Firecracker 150 three times. Other previous winners include six-time winner Brett Hudson, three-time winner Craig Cookingham and two-time winners Wayne Edwards and Brian Bayer.

In addition to the Firecracker 150 main event, the Crown Vics will race on the half-mile configuration at Salem Speedway for the first time in addition to the quarter-mile configuration and the Figure-8 configuration.
