ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa – Modifieds were an added division to the four USRA weekly classes Friday night at Rapid Speedway, creating an 86-car field total.
Rain threatened to spoil the evening, but it all slid past the track to the east.
Sportsman started the main events with the front six in the redraw. Tyler Bradley won and held off Brian Kroon, assisted by Kroon’s right-front wheel flying off in the last turn.
Hobby stocks were next with the same script as the sportsman class, minus the errant wheel. Levi Vander Weide won after Eric Gaul tried every manuever, including a giant slider, to take it away but settled for second.
B mods followed the trend but rewrote the ending. Lyndon Johnson led the first half with intense pressure from Tracy Johnson. Then, it was son passing father after getting under the elder Johnson on the backstretch, and Tracy completed the job in the following turns.
Stock cars were led by Aaron Stettnichs for three laps until 10th-starting Colton Arends used the upper line in turns three and four to become the leader. Arends dominated the race once leading.
Modifieds finished the program as they made a rare appearance. Duke Erickson might vote to race modifieds more often in Rock Rapids after dominating the finale.
