FREMONT, Ohio — Corey DeLancey finally got the monkey off his back at Fremont Speedway.
DeLancey has been close to scoring the Steel Block Late Model Series presented by Impact Race Gear two years in a row only to see it slip away late in the race. On Construction Equipment and Supply Night, Saturday, June 17, DeLancey finally put a complete night together and earned his first Fremont win.
After an opening lap caution, the feature went non-stop and DeLancey led all 25 laps. It was his third win of the year with the series and expands his points lead. Brian Speelman pressured DeLancey early but a mechanical issue forced him out of the race.
“A big shout out to the guys at Kryptonite Race Cars for all the hard work in the shop. Freddie Carpenter, Tyler Carpenter…all the guys make a hell of a ride. We’ve been here the past two years. The first year we went a little too hard on the tire and got beat and ended up second. Last year I thought we had it wrapped up and I snapped a regulator off the tandem pump so I was itching to get back here and seal the deal,” said DeLancey.
The USAC D2 Thunder Midget feature saw Matt Lux grab the early lead but Luke Hall took the top spot on lap seven and then held off a late race charge by Lux to earn his second career Fremont Speedway win. Hall, from Ludlow Falls, Ohio, also owns a non-wing sprint win at “The Track That Action Built.” The winning margin was only .428 seconds for Hall.
“I saw him down there and it got pretty sketchy. Seeing someone underneath you makes it even more sketchy. Kyle Heitmeyer, Drew Rader, Luke Guthrie, Mark Bassett….it’s awesome to get the shot to drive this,” said Hall.
In a caution-filled Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature, it appeared Jamie Miller stormed from last to the win, taking the lead at the white flag lap. But, a post-race inspection found his truck to be too wide, and Dustin Keegan, who took the lead after a great battle with Cory McCaughey at the half-way point, earned the win, the ninth of his career at the track.
