Danta Captures Late Model Glory At Grundy County

MORRIS, Ill. — Leading from flag to flag, former track champion Anthony Danta captured the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at Grundy County Speedway Friday night.

Starting on the outside front row of the 12-car field, 37-year-old Danta wheeled the Trgovich Racing Ford to his first win of the season at the third-mile paved oval. Getting by polesitter James Gregait during the opening lap, Danta kept Larry Schuler in his rearview mirror and raced to the checkered flag with a 0.307-second margin over Schuler in the yellow flag-free chase.

Two-time track champion Ricky Baker finished third, followed by Stan Zolodz IV, Blake Brown and fast qualifier and current division points leader Eddie Hoffman, the track’s seven-time late model titlist.

Jeremiah Senko was the winner of the 25-lap sportsman main event.

Getting the lead with three laps to go, Senko scored his first career sportsman division win over Scotty Gardner, points leader Kenny Benson, Kevin Murphy and Tristan Batson.

Cameron Preisler claimed top honors in the 25-lap street stock feature race.

Nailing down his third win of the year, Preisler bested Randy Weese, division leader Matt Chester, Jonathan Stevens and Darrell Gay.

On top of the current class standings, Zach Legner won the 20-lap pure stock headliner. Legner defeated Paige Lembas, Brandon Vines, Lilly Blish and Kristi Odom.

Chad Bayuk won the 15-lap hobby stock feature ahead of Jerry Legner and Jake Cholke.
