MORRIS, Ill., — Anthony Danta came home the winner of the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at the Grundy County Speedway on Friday during First Responders Night.
The 36-year-old from Beecher, Ill., drove his Trgovich Racing Ford No. 11 to his second feature win of the season at the third-mile, paved oval. Coming from his front row starting spot and leading 29 of 30 laps, Danta scored the victory in front of seven-time champion Eddie Hoffman, who finished 0.468-seconds behind the winner.
Veteran Larry Schuler grabbed third in front of Stan Zolodz IV and Tristan Batson, Schuler’s nephew, who just started his late model racing career a week ago.
A field of 16 lined up for the feature.
“I usually qualify very well, but we had a problem with a tire,” said Danta. “We were still within a tenth of fast time. I’d rather start farther back, but the way our luck’s been going this year, a win’s a win.”
Marqus Hoover was a season first-time winner as he won the 25-lap sportsman headliner. Hoover raced to the checkered flag in front of Jeff Wakeman, fast qualifier and division points leader David Einhaus, Vince Cooper, and Jeremiah Senko.
Scotty Gardner won for the fourth time this year and looks like he’s on his way to a street stock championship. Gardner was the winner of the Frank Flory Memorial 27 as he bested James Dean, Chad Bayuk, Randy Weese and Kellen Arnold III.
Flory had been a street stock competitor at the speedway until passing away in July.
Last year’s division titlist Cameron Preisler won the 20-lap headliner for four-cylinder pure stocks.
Vince Van Vossen finished second and Trevor Starek third.
For the sixth time this season, Adam Senerchia captured the Super Cup Series main event.
