MECHANICSBURG, Penn. — Williams Grove Speedway has confirmed several special racing programs on its 2023 schedule of events.
The season opener is set for Sunday, March 12, and will feature the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars and wingless super sportsman. On March 31st, modified racing will return to the track for the first time in several seasons — 358 spec small block mods will join the sprint cars in action.
In between the dates, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will make an ultra-rare March stop at the speedway for the first Williams Grove night race of the season on Friday, March 17.Â
A pair of $8,000-to-win 410 sprint car shows appear on the slate in 2023, offering full purses worth over $31,000 each. The first comes with the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic on April 21 as part of the Hoosier Diamond Series.
Another $8,000 score comes up when the Hoosier Diamond Series Jack Gunn Memorial is spun off on August 25. Both races will pay $600 to start. The August 25 event will also feature a Super Sportsman Showdown where both the winged and wingless sportsman will vie in 20-lap features.Â
Tribute races will honor former wheelman Doug Esh and former car owners Jim and Sandy Kline. The All Stars Circuit of Champions sprint cars will invade to honor Esh with a $10,000-to-win main on May 26. The Kline Tribute Race will be Sept. 1.
The customary two-date Pennsylvania Speedweek series races are also on tap, taking place on June 23 and 30.Â
Traditional visits will be made by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, including the H&N Landscaping Morgan Cup on May 12-13, the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals on July 21-22 and the Champion Racing Oil National Open on Sept. 29-30.Â
The USAC 410 sprint national tour, URC Sprints, PASS IMCA 305 sprints and the HJ Towing & Recovery 358 sprint cars will also be making apperances through the upcoming season. Other events are currently in the works. The full Williams Grove Speedway schedule of events will be released in January.
