SARVER, Pa. – Sye Lynch snatched the lead following a mid-race restart and turned back a charging Tim Shaffer to win the Peoples Natural Gas Sprints main event Friday at Lernerville Speedway.
The fourth-starting Lynch took control from Bob Felmlee on lap seven via a slide job off turn two to claim the $4,000 prize.
Shaffer nearly upended Lynch, rising from the middle of the pack to battle for the lead with three laps remaining. But the challenge was short-lived, as Shaffer spun when he made contact with Lynch in turns three and four.
“That’s aggressive racing and I hate to make contact like that,” Lynch said. “More money on the line, that’s what brought Shaffer to town, and I look up to him as a driver. We raced hard, misjudged there in (turn) three and I own up to it.
“All race I drove hard,” Lynch added. “In a perfect world I would’ve loved to have won the race with no contact. With more money on the line, I did what had to be done.”
Carl Bowser and Jack Sodeman Jr. rounded out the 410 podium. Felmlee and Brandon Spithaler completed the top-five.
Chad Ruhlman won the 20-lap RUSH Sprints Weekly Series feature, while Greg Dobrosky topped the Allegheny Sprint Tour 305 series main event.
