CLEARFIELD, Pa. — The Ninth Running of the Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial at Hidden Valley Speedway was won by Jon Lee as he parked the No. 5L in victory Lane on Friday night.
The Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial saw heat race winners Lee and Denny Fenton on the front row for the 35-lap super late model main event. As Sam McClellan threw the green flag to get the show underway, Fenton actually had the lead heading into the first turn, but Lee was on the gas and took the lead off turn two and was looking for a win.
A quick caution flag on lap one regrouped the field with Lee still holding the lead. Fenton sat second with Joey Petyak in third. The race went until laps 10 and 11 when the caution waved again.
The final 24 laps went non-stop, as Lee began to open up his lead, Fenton held onto second as third through fifth was close but everyone was holding their own. Lee won his first McGarvey Memorial race over Fenton in second, Brandon Debrakeleer was third as Petyak fell to fourth after a late-race bobble and Rodney Phillips was fifth.
Other winners for the first regular season show included Gary Little in the Semi Lates, Jimmy Holden in the small block modifieds, Brandon Connor in the Penn-Ohio Pro Stocks, Tim Steis in the pure stocks, A.J. Hoffner in the Little’s Drive In Four Cylinders and Ronald Ramsey won the Old Skool Stock car class while Cody Schultz won in the Old Skool Vintage Modified Class.
