COEBURN, Va. – Clay Valley Speedway, previously known as Lonesome Pine Raceway, has ceased operations effective immediately.
Track officials made the announcement via the track’s official Facebook page on Monday evening.
The track, then known as Lonesome Pine Raceway, opened in 1972 as a three-eighths-mile asphalt track. It hosted its first major event that same year, a Grand National East event won by Bobby Isaac that also featured Richard Childress, Bobby Allison and Wendell Scott.
The facility shut down in 2017, but in 2018 it was purchased by businessman Bobby Hill. He soon announced plans to convert the facility to a dirt track, renaming it Clay Valley Speedway.
The track returned to action earlier this year, with a full season of racing on tap. The facility hosted three events before Hill announced plans to shut the facility down. Six events scheduled for this year were rained out.
