MORRIS, Ill. — Anthony Danta raced to his first feature win of the season on Friday night as he grabbed top honors in the 30-lap late model stock car feature race at Grundy County Speedway.
Danta, the track’s 2016 late model champion, drove the Lisa Trgovich-owned, Attorney Ray Szarmach-sponsored Ford No. 11 to the victory. Danta was also the fastest qualifier in the late model ranks.
He passed Eddie Hoffman for the lead on lap 11 and took the checkered flag with a 0.783-second advantage over Dave Gentile Jr.
Hoffman, a seven-time late model champion at Grundy, finished third and was followed by Dean Patterson and Steve Seligman who rounded out the top-five.
“(Turns) 3 and 4 isn’t as huge of a deal, but in 1 and 2, if you can get it to turn on the bottom and come off down there, it makes a big advantage,” Danta said after his win. “A lot of people talk about how I run low. It works for me.”
John Ventrello won the 25-lap sportsman division feature race, posting his first win of the year.
Points leader David Einhaus finished second, followed by Rickey Mathis Jr., John McMahon and Jeff Wakeman.Â
Winning for the second time this season, two-time division titlist Randy Weese claimed victory in the 25-lap street stock headliner, beating current points leader Scotty Gardner, defending track champion Scott Gardner, James Dean and Chad Bayuk to the finish line.
Another first-time winner this year, Mark Sontag Jr. came home the winner of the 20-lap main event for 4-cylinder competitors as he bested Kristi Odom and Katie Hocking. Â
JoJo Fadke was the winner of the Super Cup Series feature.Â
