FONTANA, Calif. – Tyler Reddick earned his second NASCAR Xfinity Series pole of the season Saturday afternoon at Auto Club Speedway.
Reddick, the reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, put the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet Camaro on the pole thanks to his 40.031-second lap at 179.861 mph. He also earned the pole for the season opening race at Daytona Int’l Speedway.
“This Hurdl Camaro was just really great,” said Reddick, who won the pole despite damaging his car in a crash Friday afternoon during practice. “I unfortunately made our day very, very long for all of our guys at RCR (by) getting into the wall, spinning out and having to fix a lot of things. They worked really, really hard into the evening last night and obviously the car has a lot of speed.
“I’m trying to give them a little bit back for how hard they’ve been working, especially here this weekend getting the car back to 100 percent.”
The pole by Reddick gives Richard Childress Racing a sweep of the NASCAR poles at Auto Club Speedway this weekend. Austin Dillon won the pole for Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event on Friday.
Kyle Busch, who will attempt to earn his 200th NASCAR National series victory Saturday afternoon, qualified second with a 40.077-second lap.
Cole Custer will start third in the Production Alliance Group 300 and will be followed by Christopher Bell, Noah Gragson, Chase Briscoe, Ryan Preece, Justin Allgaier, Brandon Jones and John Hunter Nemechek.
