ANDERSON, Ind. — Dameron Taylor took a big step toward a third Kenyon Midget championship with a win at Anderson Speedway.
Taylor entered the night with an eight-point margin over Jack Macenko, who for the third consecutive race was snake bit on Thursday.
Macenko earned his second K&K Marketing Fast Qualifier award this season at Anderson with Dameron Taylor posting the second quick time followed by leading rookie Kyle Ford.
Macenko’s lap of 12.393 seconds was .142-second faster than Taylor’s and he gained four points in the single long championship fight.
An invert of four for the feature put Logan Huggler and Ford on the front row with Huggler taking the lead at the start chased by Ford, Taylor and Macenko.
The caution flag waved on lap three when Macenko was bumped by Clayton Gaines in the second corner, sending Macenko into the turn two wall and he was unable to restart.
Ford and Taylor got inside of Huggler on the seventh lap and the battle was on for the lead.
Taylor make the pass for the point on the 12th lap with an inside pass entering turn three and went on to win by 1.5-seconds over Ford with Ryan Huggler coming home in third.
“I was holding my breath for the final 20 laps,” Taylor said in the Riley & Sons Victory Lane. “We changed the springs all night trying to get the car right, we were throwing everything at the car.”
Taylor said he was waiting for the right opportunity to make the pass for the lead to make sure Ford saw him on the low side of the track.
“I really needed this win,” he said. “The last race is on dirt, so I’m just looking for a good finish.”
The finish:
1) Dameron Taylor; 2) Kyle Ford; 3) Ryan Huggler; 4) Logan Huggler; 5) Isaac Johnson; 6) Clayton Gaines; 7) Marcel Berndt; 8) Tanner Tecco; 9) Taylor Tecco; 10) Eric Webber; 11) Logan Prickett; 12) Jack Macenko
