TOLEDO, Ohio – Michael Self’s road to the ARCA Menards Series championship hit another speed bump on Wednesday thanks to a post-race penalty assessed by series officials from Michigan Int’l Speedway.
Based on post-race technical inspection from the VizCom 200 at Michigan on June 7, Self’s team was one of two teams penalized for ARCA Rule Book violations.
Shannon Rursch, crew chief of the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports team, was fined $3,000 for an unapproved body alteration discovered on the race-winning Sinclair Oil Corp. Toyota.
In addition, driver Michael Self and team owner Cathy Venturini were each penalized with the loss of 50 championship points and applicable team special award points.
This was the team’s second post-race technical inspection violation of the season. It drops Self’s point lead to just 15 over runner-up Bret Holmes.
The top five are now separated by just 125 points with 11 races remaining this season.
The second penalty assessed saw Seth Smith, crew chief of the No. 54 DGR-Crosley team, fined $1,500 for a roof height violation discovered during post-race technical inspection.
In addition, driver Tanner Gray and team owner David Gilliland were each penalized with the loss of 25 championship points and applicable team special award points as a result of the issue.
