FORT WORTH, Texas – Grant Enfinger proved his intermediate-track prowess by scoring a win on a 1.5-mile oval last year, and he backed it up with a pole qualifying effort on Friday at Texas Motor Speedway.
Enfinger took his No. 98 Curb Records Ford F-150 to a lap of 28.823 seconds (187.350 mph) in the final round to earn his fourth career NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series pole and first at Texas ahead of his 65th series start.
The Alabama native will seek his third-career Truck Series win during Friday night’s Vankor 350.
“Overall, our truck was driving really well yesterday, so I’m cautiously optimistic,” said Enfinger, who won last fall at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. “I was optimistic last week, and we ran like crap for the most part, so we’ll just have to see. We’ve had really good trucks; we just had an off week last week, so we’re hoping to rebound this week with a win.”
Enfinger will be joined on the front row by defending Truck Series champion Brett Moffitt, who posted a time of 28.855 seconds (187.143 mph) in the pole round with his No. 24 Allegiant Chevrolet Silverado.
Moffitt’s teammate Sheldon Creed, all-time series wins leader Kyle Busch and Daytona winner Austin Hill were third through fifth, respectively.
Tyler Ankrum, Johnny Sauter, Ben Rhodes, Stewart Friesen, Harrison Burton, Ross Chastain and Matt Crafton filled out the first six rows of the grid and all advanced to the final round as well.
Brennan Poole was the first driver who failed to advance out of round one of qualifying and will start 13th in the No. 30 Bad Boy Mowers Toyota Tundra for On Point Motorsports.
“Our truck was solid yesterday in practice,” noted Poole. “I thought we’d have a little bit more speed to make it into the (top) 12, but we tightened the truck up thinking the track was a bit freer … and I think it just scrubbed a little bit of speed off. It drove well; I was wide open around the place.
“That was just about all we had there for qualifying, but we should line up and race well tonight.”
Other notables starting deep in the field include Bubba Wallace (15th), Todd Gilliland (16th), Joe Nemechek (17th), Jesse Little (20th), Tyler Dippel (24th) and Garrett Smithley (25th).
