DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The final major pin in the motorsports world dropped Friday afternoon with the postponement of all American Flat Track festivities at Daytona Int’l Speedway.
The scheduled program for Saturday included the 79th running of the Daytona 200, as well as the season-opening Daytona TT for American Flat Track competitors.
The full American Flat Track statement can be found below:
“American Flat Track has postponed this weekend’s race events at Daytona Int’l Speedway, which includes Saturday’s Daytona 200 presented by CoMoto and the Daytona TT. The 79th Daytona 200 will be held as part of Biketoberfest in October and the Daytona TT will be rescheduled on a future date.
“We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with the sport. We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events.”
The postponement of the Daytona Int’l Speedway motorcycle events effectively halts the professional motorsports world in the wake of the global coronavirus outbreak.
Among major sanctioning bodies, American Flat Track joins NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula One, Formula E, the World of Outlaws, IMSA, NHRA, USAC, Supercross, Trans-Am and ARCA as organizations that have postponed or canceled events due to health concerns.
