AVON, Ind. — Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr. has been arrested.
Unser was arrested by the Avon Police Department early Monday morning and charged with operating while intoxicated according to local jail records. He was booked into jail just before 3:30 a.m.
The 57-year-old Unser has had previous brushes with the law. He was previously arrested for drunk driving in Nevada in 2007 and New Mexico in 2011.
Unser won the Indianapolis 500 in 1992 and ’94 and is a two-time CART champion, having won the title in 1990 and ’94.
Most recently Unser has worked with Harding-Steinbrenner Racing and rookie driver Colton Herta as an executive consultant. Herta qualified fifth for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday afternoon.
