On Saturday the end of the historic New York State Fairgrounds "Moody Mile" became a reality as construction workers imploded the grandstands on the front stretch of the one-mile dirt oval.

HEDGER: The Long Look

Although the Northeast racing community had been on notice about the impending loss of the historic New York State Fairgrounds mile since March, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s recent announcement that demolition of the grandstand and speedway to allow a major fairgrounds renovation would commence after this year’s Super DIRT Week was still hard to swallow.
It is becoming clear that the future of the New York State Fairgrounds could include horses or race cars, but likely not both.
