Sauter & Cannon Lead SpeedFest Qualifying


CORDELE, Ga. – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series veteran Johnny Sauter topped qualifying for the ARCA/CRA Super Series portion of SpeedFest on Saturday at Watermelon Capital Speedway.

Sauter claimed the fast qualifier award with a track record lap of 15.562 seconds, breaking the record set last year by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor David Ragan. John Hunter Nemechek was second fastest, followed by Daniel Hemric, Chase Elliott and Casey Smith.

Sauter drew a seven invert for the start of the race, putting Ragan on the pole for Sunday’s 200-lap event. Scotty Ellis will start second.

Illiana Motor Speedway regular Jeff Cannon led qualifying for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event, leading the way with a best lap of 15.930 seconds. He fell just .091 of a second of matching the series qualifying record at the three-eighths-mile venue. Garrett Jones, Bubba Pollard, Nemechek and Payton Ryan completed the top five in qualifying.

Cannon drew a 10 invert, placing Hunter Robbins on the pole for the 125-lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour race. Dwayne Buggay will start alongside him.
