MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Kyle Busch Motorsports announced Monday that 15-year-old Sammy Smith has joined the team to compete in more than 20 super late model events aboard the team’s No. 51 entry.
Smith’s Camry will carry primary sponsorship from TMC Transportation.
Smith will kick off his season during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway, at which he won the championship in the pro late model division last season. The following week, he will join KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch for the Star Nursery 150 at The Bullring at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.
Smith will enter events in the CARS Super Late Model Tour, the ARCA Midwest Tour, the ARCA/CRA Super Series, the Southern Super Series and several additional marquee events.
The Iowa teenager picked up three victories in the pro late model division en route to his championship in the 2019 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna. In addition to his limited schedule in pro late models last season, Smith tallied five top-five and six top-10 finishes en route to an average finish of 4.2 across his six CARS Late Model Stock Tour starts.
Prior to last season, Smith spent three seasons competing in Legend cars, where he amassed 31 victories and 109 top-five finishes. He finished fourth in the U.S. Legend Cars Semi-Pro national championship standings in 2018 after compiling 23 victories and an average finish of 3.9 across 65 starts.
“I appreciate the opportunity to drive for KBM,” Smith said. “I’m looking forward to learning from one of the best in the business and I want to thank TMC Transportation for all of their support.”
