On Thursday, CARS Tour officials announced that Layne Riggs, who crossed the finish line first during Wednesday night’s late model stock car feature at North Carolina’s Caraway Speedway, has been disqualified.
The credit for the win, as well as the purse, has been awarded to second-place finisher Jared Fryer.
Riggs’ penalty was due to “a part that was over tolerance” on the No. 62 Kevin Harvick Inc. car, owned by Kevin Harvick, who is also a co-owner of the CARS Tour. The issue was found during post-race inspection on Wednesday night.
According to a tweet from the CARS Tour, KHI admitted to “an unintentional oversight involving the part.”
As a result, Riggs was disqualified.
Riggs took to Twitter as well, writing, “I really hate this for the team and all my fans. I don’t think this should overshadow what a good showing we had. It’s disappointing that it was over something that was not a performance advantage and unintentional.”
