OWOSSO, Mich. — Officials from Owosso Speedway and ASA STARS National Tour have announced a purse increase for the August 17 “Michigan 200” at Owosso Speedway.
The increase is for guaranteed start money, now raised to $2,500. Most ASA STARS National Tour events have offered either $1,000 or $1,500 to start. Track and series officials noted the high costs of competing in a traveling series as the reason for the increase.
“We recognize that Super Late Model Racing … all racing, for that matter, is expensive,” commented Owosso Speedway Owner and Promoter Rex Wheeler. “The ASA STARS National Tour is a premier short track series in America, and thanks to several partners, Owosso Speedway is proud to be a part of the tour and we hope to be a part of its growth and long-term future.”
Owosso Speedway is a 0.375 mi, progressively banked oval located east of Ovid, Michigan, between Ovid and Owosso. The track, which first opened in 1939, was purchased by Wheeler and his wife, Sarah, following the 2022 season. The Wheeler family wasted no time in further investing in the facility, completely repaving the racing surface for the first time in more than 3 decades.
The August 17th visit to the central Michigan short track will be a first-time visit for the ASA STARS National Tour and will serve as race number 7 of ten on the 2024 STARS Tour schedule.
