RADFORD, Va. – Bubba Pollard and Bobby McCarty shared the spotlight during Saturday’s CARS Tour Heritage Truck Centers 250 at Motor Mile Speedway.
Pollard earned his third CARS Super Late Model Tour victory in as many starts Saturday night after fending off a determined Matt Craig. Pollard started on the pole, only to give up the lead when Craig moved him out of the way midway through the race.
Pollard was able to get back to the lead, but Craig would not go away. A restart with 11 laps left saw Craig snatch the lead, but officials called him for jumping the restart. The second attempt to restart the race saw Pollard get away as Craig drifted back into a battle for second.
Craig ended up settling for second, followed by Stephen Nasse, Tate Fogleman and Kodie Conner.
In the CARS Late Model Stock Tour race, Josh Berry dominated for 124 laps before McCarty used his front bumper to move the JR Motorsports driver out of the way.
Berry looked like he was on his way to victory when a caution flag waved on the last lap. Under CARS Tour rules the field was required to line up for a restart. Berry got the jump on the restart, but McCarty was hot on his heels.
After taking the white flag for a second time, Berry drove into turn one but McCarty was there. McCarty used his front bumper to root Berry out of the way, allowing McCarty to take the lead as Berry spun.
Another caution waved for the incident and McCarty was now the leader as Berry rejoined the field at the tail. McCarty then held off Justin Carroll during the final restart to pick up the victory.
Sammy Smith was third behind McCarty and Carroll. Brandon Pierce and Tommy Lemons Jr. completed the top-five.
