NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Stephen Nasse was an unlikely winner in Saturday night’s super late model portion of the All American 400 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
Nasse, who won the Winchester 400 two weeks ago, struggled through the weekend and was fifth when the leaders crashed after taking the white flag.
That created, a green-white-checkered finish and Nasse held off Luke Fenhaus to win his second consecutive crown jewel late model event.
“These kind of wins don’t come all the time, they don’t come often and they’re not easy to get,” Nasse said. “It was a hard fight today. We couldn’t get a handle on the car. I felt like all the adjustments we were making were the wrong things. We’re going the opposite direction and felt like we were going in circles.”
Fenhaus was disqualified for an improper ignition box.
That elevated Gio Ruggiero to second, with Kyle Crump, Casey Johnson and Derek Thorn rounding out the top five.
William Sawalich was in control of the race and in position to win when Cody Dempster spun with a handful of laps remaining.
When the race resumed, Sawalich, Matt Craig, Cole Butcher and Austin Nash crashed while racing for the lead. Craig continued on the track in the lead, but was sent to the rear by officials for his role in the accident.
That put Nasse on the point for the final restart.
Jake Bollman won the Pro Late Model feature.
