Jody Measamer will honor the late Smokey Yunick with his Throwback 276 paint scheme on Aug. 3-4 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Veteran racer Jody Measamer will pay tribute to legendary car owner and mechanic Smokey Yunick with his CARS Tour Throwback 276 paint scheme Aug. 3-4 at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Measamer’s super late model will be wrapped identically to the car owned by Yunick and driven by Curtis Turner during the 1967 Daytona 500. Driving for Yunick, Turner became the first driver to turn a lap in excess of 180 mph. The wrap on Measamer’s car was designed by CARS Tour premier graphics partner Grafix Unlimited.

Yunick was widely known for his engineering innovations as well as his efforts to improve driver safety during his time in the sport. He was selected as NASCAR’s Mechanic of the Year on two occasions.

Through the years Yunick was extremely successful both as a car owner and a mechanic. He won 57 races in the NASCAR Cup Series as either a mechanic or car owner, working with drivers such as Turner, Glenn “Fireball” Roberts, Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Bobby Isaac, A.J. Foyt, Marvin Panch and Paul Goldsmith.

The CARS Tour Throwback 276 is being taped in association with Pit Row Media and the tape-delayed broadcast will air on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on MAVTV as part of Suzuki presents SPEED SPORT. The event will also be live streamed on CARS Tour TV by Pit Row Media on Aug. 3-4.
