Leaders Tangle, McCaskill Triumphs At Langley

HAMPTON, Va. – Deac McCaskill went into the final lap of Saturday’s CARS Late Model Stock Tour event at Langley Speedway running third.

When the checkered flag waved moments later, it was McCaskill leading the field across the finish line.

McCaskill benefitted from contact between race leaders Bobby McCarty and Layne Riggs, taking the lead in turn three to earn his first series victory of the season.

A caution flag after the white flag waved for a spin by Brandon Pierce set up a restart because the CARS Tour rulebook requires the series to finish under the green flag.

McCarty was the leader on the green-white-checkered restart, with Riggs lined up in second and McCaskill in third. When the green waved McCarty and Riggs battled hard for the lead, with McCarty emerging at the front in turn one after the white flag waved.

Coming out of turn two Riggs gave McCarty a shot to his bumper, moving McCarty out of the way and allowing Riggs to get to his inside. McCarty repaid the favor going into turn three, sending Riggs spinning.

McCaskill took full advantage, diving under McCarty and the spinning Riggs to emerge with the race lead out of turn four to win the race.

McCarty crossed the line in second after leading during the final restart. Sammy Smith, Adam Lemke and Riggs completed the top-five.
