Heim Tops Chaotic SpeedFest Main Event

CORDELE, Ga. — Corey Heim emerged the victor in a wild and chaotic finish to the ARCA/CRA Super Series portion of SpeedFest on Saturday at Crisp Motorsports Park.

For most of the race it appeared that the battle was going to be between super late model stalwarts Bubba Pollard and Stephen Nasse. Nasse was the leader during a restart with 18 laps left that saw the duo go to war for the lead.

After battling for the top spot for four laps, Pollard made contact with Nasse as they raced in turn two. The bump moved Nasse up the track and out of the way, allowing Pollard to take the race lead.

That wasn’t the end of the contact, as Nasse returned the favor in turn four that sent Pollard spinning. The caution flag was waved and Nasse was penalized for rough driving, which sent him to the rear of the field alongside Pollard.

That wasn’t the end of things for Pollard and Nasse as the two made contact again with 11 laps left while they were battling at the back of the field, resulting in Nasse spinning to bring out another caution.

This time both drivers opted to retire from the race, but words were exchanged between drivers and crews on pit road as neither group was happy with the other.

Meanwhile, Heim and Kyle Plott suddenly found themselves at the front of the field battling for the race win. Another late caution resulted in the pair battling for the lead during a two-lap shootout, with Heim beating Plott to the finish line in a photo finish to earn the victory.

Dawson Fletcher finished third, followed by Willie Allen and Daniel Dye.
