BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Jacob Gomes continued to be the driver to beat in SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour competition Saturday night at Kern County Raceway Park.
Gomes earned $10,000 for winning the Winter Showdown 135 at the half-mile asphalt track. It was his second victory of the season as he previously claimed the $25,000 top prize in the All-Star Showdown at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.
It was also the second consecutive year that Gomes captured the Winter Showdown.
Gomes grabbed the lead from Jace Hansen on a lap-84 restart and led the remainder of the 135-lap event to post his 12th career victory in the series, tying him for third on the all-time list with Jeremy Doss.
Hansen finished 6.019 seconds behind Gomes in second.
Buddy Shepherd claimed third, with Dylan Zampa and Dan Holtz rounded out the top five.
Linny White won the 60-lap pro late model main event, taking the checkered flag ahead of Bradley Erickson.
Travis Thirkettle bested Holly Clark to win the modified feature.
