IRWINDALE, Calif. — Jacob Gomes earned the biggest victory of his super late model racing career Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway.
Driving the No. 16 late model, Gomes won the All-Star Showdown 200 for the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour, banking $25,000 for the triumph.
Gomes grabbed the lead from fast qualifier Kole Raz, who also led at the halfway break, shortly after the restart for the second half of the 200-lap event on the half-mile oval.
Gomes battled with Blaine Rocha, Dan Holtz and John Moore before beating Moore to the checkered flag by 3.549 seconds.
Jeremy Doss finished third, with Chris Davidson and Darren Robertson completing the top five.
Raz was the fast qualifier with a lap of 17.448 seconds for the 29-car field
Linny White was declared the winner of the Pro Late Model main event when the race was called after 56 laps because of curfew. White’s teammate, Sean Woodside, finished second.
