OXFORD, Maine – Cassius Clark snared the lead from Joey Doiron on lap 113 of Sunday’s PASS North Ripley and Fletcher Ford 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway to capture the PASS North super-late-model season opener.
Clark started eighth in the thirty-two car field. The victory was Clark’s sixteenth PASS North checker, fourth on the all time PASS North win list.
“Really great getting back to Oxford and it felt like the good ol days with pro stocks back as the top division,” Clark said. “A big car count and it was great racing all day. I’ve always thought of Oxford as my home and always want to run well there. We had problems the last race of the 2012 season here and I couldn’t wait to get back to redeem ourselves. The team worked hard over the winter and it paid off. We had a great battle with Joey Doiron for the win and the respect was there, it was fun racing him.”
Joey Doiron led the most laps in a race that stayed green for the first 86 stanzas. But the Berwick Maine ace couldn’t hold back the charging Clark and had to settle for second.
Defending PASS North champion Travis Benjamin raced from deep in the field to capture third. Benjamin was forced to qualify through the consolation rounds and ran as deep as 24th in the early stages.
Sunday’s PASS 150 was the first event for speedway owner (and PASS President) Tom Mayberry. 43 super late models attempted to qualify.
The PASS North super late models returns to action on May 4 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, for the SouthernMaineMotors.com 150.
