CORDELE, Ga. – Georgia’s Bubba Pollard led only three laps during CRA’s annual ARCA/CRA Super Series SpeedFest super late model feature, but they were the final circuits at the Crisp Motorsports Park on Sunday.
Pollard took the lead on lap 199 when he got inside of leader John Hunter Nemechek in turn one with William Bryon a close third. Bryon tapped Pollard who got into Nemechek, causing the leader to spin off the second corner.
Pollard inherited the lead when Byron was penalized by CRA officials for making the initial contact.
On the restart Pollard was able to hold off Harrison Burton for the victory with Zane Smith, Noah Gragson and Cole Anderson rounding out the top five.
The caution flag waved five times over the final 20 laps which resulted in six lead changes among Pollard, Nemechek and Byron.
“We didn’t have the best car,” Pollard said in the winner’s circle. “The second set of tires wasn’t as good as the first. We just took what came to us.”
Wisconsin driver Ty Majeski led the first 100 laps and surrendered the lead to Brandon Setzer following the midway break.
Majeski retook the lead on lap 139 but by lap 163 Setzer was back on the point. The two leaders got together on a restart on lap 175 which ended Setzer’s day.
NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kyle Busch battled an ill-handling race car for the entire day. While running 11th on lap 136 Busch’s car left turn three and became mired in a mud bog left from rain in Georgia earlier in the week. He ended the race in 24th.
