SYRACUSE, N.Y. — SEF Small Engine Fuels 200 polesitter Jimmy Phelps started on the pole and led all 20 laps of the first big-block modified race Friday at the New York State Fairgrounds, while Billy Decker, who had won a 358 qualifier earlier in the day, and Pat Ward won second two-thirds of the Triple 20s.

Phelps cruised to a .663-second triumph over Stewart Friesen on the historic one-mile dirt track, strengthening his role of one of the favorites to win Sunday’s 200-lap event.

Ryan Godown, Tim Hindley and David Hebert completed the top five in the opener.

Decker won the second race to collect the 10th Triple 20 Syracuse qualifying triumph of his career. J.R Heffner finished second with Bobby Varin, Bob McGannon and Tim McCreadie completing the top five.

Ward, a teammate to Decker, won the third 20 lapper beating Dale Planck to the checkered flag. Ronnie Johnson, Tim Fuller and Brett Hearn rounded out the top five.
