Paul Tracy caused quite the stir during Thursday night’s Superstar Racing Experience event at Pulaski County Motorsports Park when he shoved Josef Newgarden into the outside wall on lap 90 and caused a multi-car pileup on the frontstretch.
Following review of the incident on Friday afternoon, SRX officials suspended Tracy from the series, effective immediately.
The series’ CEO, Don Hawk, released a statement via Twitter.
“We take issues regarding driver safety extremely seriously at SRX. This is not a decision we take lightly. It is our responsibility to ensure that we foster a competitive, and most importantly, a safe racing environment. I have been in contact with Paul directly and we appreciate his cooperation on this matter,” Hawk wrote.
Those involved in the lap 90 incident were Newgarden, Ken Schrader and Hailie Deegan.
Schrader was the first to vocalize his displeasure with Tracy, which he did during his ESPN interview on Thursday night, saying he was “done” racing with Tracy.
Tracy is one of eight full-time SRX drivers. He has finished fourth, 11th and 10th in the opening three races.
