PENSACOLA, Fla. — Defending Snowball Derby winner Chase Elliott showed his prowess at Five Flags Speedway Saturday night, winning the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 for pro late models.
Elliott won the race for the second time in three years and beat Mike Garvey to the checkered flag after surviving a number of restarts in the final 10 laps.
“This means a lot to me,” said Elliott, who became the youngest winner in Snowball history last year at age 16. “My guys work hard year after year.”
Fifteen-year-old Kyle Benjamin finished third, ahead of Austin Theriault and Erik Jones.
In the Snowball Derby last chance race, Paul Kelley picked up the victory to advance to Sunday’s main event. Also advancing were Brian Campbell, Theriault and Jeff Fultz. Garvey, Logan Boyett and Steve Wallace received provisionals.
Among those failing to qualify for the Derby were NASCAR Sprint Cup regular Landon Cassill, Dennis Prunty, Kyle Grissom, Kenzie Ruston, Anderson Bowen, Spencer Davis and Brandon Watson.
