TIMMONSVILLE, S. C. — Brenden Queen hit the road this weekend and came up with a big victory Saturday night at Florence Motor Speedway.
The three-time Langley (Va.) Speedway track champion held off Carson Kvapil to win the South Carolina 400 late model stock car race at the four-tenths-mile asphalt track.
It was Queen’s first race driving for Lee Pulliam Performance.
“I finally win away from Langley,” Queen said. “Everybody questioned if I was a one-track wonder, but we proved we can get it done down South. We’re taking this trophy back to Virginia.”
Queen was running third as the race neared conclusion when leaders Mason Diaz and Sam Yarbrough tangled on a restart, eliminating both from contention.
Queen and Kvapil were left to settle it and managed to hold off Kvapil during the run to the checkered flag.
Isabella Robusto finished third, with Cody Kelley and Matthew Craig rounding out the top five.
Crowd favorite Dale Earnhard Jr. finished ninth.
