MONROE, Wash. – Evergreen Speedway is gearing up to host the NASCAR Summer Showdown on July 23-24, a premier event that will offer big paydays to super late model and pro late model competitors on the West Coast.
As the summer’s premier NASCAR short track event on the West Coast, the Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway has attracted some of the biggest names in short-track racing. Three-time Summer Showdown winner Preston Peltier, based in Las Vegas, may return in addition to other local and regional favorites.
Past notables that have competed in this event include 2015 winner Bubba Pollard, Northwest local legend Garrett Evans and SRL Southwest Tour star Derek Thorn. Cameron Hayley, the 2014 Summer Showdown winner, backed up his victory by joining ThorSport Racing to race full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series the following year, reinforcing how important the race is for future stars of the sport.
The weekend gets underway on Thursday, July 22, with an evening set for the Drivers’ Dinner, sponsored by Central Welding Supply. Drivers will also. draw for their qualifying order on July 22
On Friday, July 23, super late model competitors will qualify for their feature followed by a 125-lap NASCAR pro late model race on the five-eighths-mile oval. The pro late model feature will pay $15,000 to the race winner, with the winner also getting the option to tag the rear of the Summer Showdown 200-lap main event on Saturday, July 24.
Drivers who finish second and third in the pro late model race will also get the chance to start at the tail of the Summer Showdown feature.
Finally, on Saturday, July 24, the 200-lap super late model main event will headline a day of racing that also features street stocks, Legend cars and the Northwest Outlaw Mini Stocks. The winner of the Summer Showdown finale will pocket $25,000.
Should the winner of the pro late model race win the Summer Showdown finale from the tail, they’ll earn an additional $40,000 bonus for a total purse of $80,000. The total event purse is in excess of more than $220,000.
